"Queer As Folk!"
This new eight-part drama serial follows the lives of three men - Stuart (Aidan Gillen), his best mate Vince (Craig Kelly) and Nathan (Charlie Hunnam) living it large in Manchester's gay village. In the first episode we meet Stuart and Vince, stalwarts of the scene are out on the pull in Canal Street. There they meet Nathan, young, wild and coming out with a vengeance, and nothing can ever be the same again. The series is written by Russell T Davies and directed by Charles McDougal.

Comments and Overview

Is it lifelike? Personally I can relate to much of what is being shown in the series. Many guys on the gay scene will have experienced similar situations and have friends with traits shown by the characters in the series. The show is going for sensationalism which it be for Mr and Mrs Daily Mail, but for a lot of gay men it must be a case of been there, done that! The series has been compared to a gay version of "This Life". The more I watch it the more it grows on me.

The Press What is it with some of the British Press? The Daily Mail and the Sun responded as predicted with The Sun even asking its readers to boycott companies which advertised during the program. If I was a marketing executive I'd jump at the opportunity to get my beer or product associated with the show. There is nothing like a bit of controversy to give a product a bit of Street Cred. The Daily Mail article is sad because it seems so out of touch with the changes that are taking place in Britain re people's attitudes towards gaymen or are we being naive living in London

Manchester So is Manchester's gay village really like that. Although the outside of some of the bars and clubs was used the interior scenes were shot in studios. We'll bein going up to Manchester outselves over the weekend 19th/20th March to experience the scene for ourselves. Not that we haven't been up there before but Mardi Gras seems so long ago and this sounds like a good excuse to have a weekend break from London.

The Gay Response The newsgroups have been full of discussion regarding the series. Overall it has been positive although there were one or two discenters, stating that the series stereotypes a certain section of the gay community and gave everyone a bad name. Perhaps there are valid points for both sides of the argument. Overall I feel is breaking new grown in gay drama on British television. Certainly everyone I know if watching it. There has also been some criticism that the three main players are supposedly straight. Well if they are there, then their portrayal of gay men is certainly very convincing.

Stuart and Vince have some friends up from London to stay! All of them go out on Canal Street where Stuart finds 2 men to have a party on their own. The other look on enviously and wonder what the magic words he says to these guys that enables him to cop off so regularly.

While Vince tries to cop off with some guy only to find out something rather nasty. Phil also has some luck but in making the stupid mistake of taking drugs he pays deadly consequences.

Nathan still has the hots for Stuart and thinks it's funny to use Stuarts Taxi account. He takes Donna to Canal Street who loves the place!

Preview. Vince and Stuart attend Phil's funeral... in the quiet village where he grew up. Phil had planned the whole event meticulously; it is gloriously tacky, and at the same time deeply depressing, especially in the face of Mrs. Delaney's bewilderment. Vince is nervous because Phil nominated him for the reading; the lines to Phil's favourite song, D.I.S.C.O.

At the wake Vince meets Phil's accountant Cameron Roberts and gets immersed in a painful, intense conversation with Mrs. Delaney. In her despair she is looking for something to blame and can't stop herself pointing to her son's sexuality.

At school, Nathan tentatively approaches his classmate Christian. At home, his mother Janice finally confronts him. He rushes off in search of Stuart and ends up in Canal Street, eerily quiet during the day. He tricks a club doorman in to giving him Bernard and Hazel's address and heads off. If they don't let him stay, he'll leave for London.

Walking, talking, Sex on legs. Is he drop dead gorgeous though, and what are those magic words he's says to those guys? I don't care as Vince says he says them for all of us, can someone tell me! Ps we like the apartment. Certainly he has all the trappings of a A Class queen or is that Class A Ds?"Ah Doctor,we meet again" as Vince would probably say lip-synching to Doctor Who videos. From the feedback so far this Vince is preferred choice as boyfriend and the one that can relate too. There must be a lot of frustrated queens out there! And finally, Vince, come out of that closet and get yourself a better job. You're too bright to be stuck in Quick Save.Nathan (I'd give him one) Sweety Darling. The Chicken. Oh to be "15" again. Well not really.

For a 15 year old he know what he wants. But will he get Stuart?
