NOTTINGHAM
Both Nottingham Pride and Nottingham Pink Lace have been cancelled, leaving the city without a gay festival this year. Following the inaugural event in 2000, it was hoped that the Nottingham Pride festival would be able to cement its position in the gay calendar this year - its cancellation is certain to disappoint thousands of revellers. The cancellation has left the city without a gay festival, with Pink Lace celebrations, planned for July, no longer going ahead either. Pride was cancelled when it was deemed unrealistic for Nottingham to host two major gay events. Pink Laces eventual cancellation came too late for the Pride committee to organise their festival as a replacement. |

| Mr Gay UK - The Final - Sunday 28th May |
| The Mr.
Gay UK 2000 final will be held in the UK's second city at the kick off
of the gay festival season at Birmingham Pride! Birmingham Pride was expecting
to pull in between 60,000 and 100,000 *before* the Mr. Gay UK final was
announced as being held at DNA Birmingham on Sunday 28th May. (sound like
PR speak to me) DNA Birmingham is actually a straight venue, but none of the gay venues could hold the capacity of expected spectators the event. Both of the gay night clubs (Subway City and The Nightingale) could hold the numbers, but not in one room, like DNA Birmingham can. However, the event is being sponsored by Angels, which shot to national fame during the 2001 series of GayTime TV (IIRC). Tickets are £10 in advance from Clone Zone (in Birmingham) & Angels, or from the Mr. Gay UK Info Line on 07050 200003. See the Mr Gay UK website for further details. (updated 7th May 2000) |

| Brighton Pride 2000 - Saturday 11st August 2001 |
|
To start the new century Brighton and Hove Pride offers a new beginning within the Lesbian and Gay community. In the early part of January 2000 a new community organisation was created to represent the views and dreams of the people of Brighton and Hove. The new organisation marries together a partnership of local Lesbian and gay groups with commercial businesses. With it's huge Gay and lesbian population; dozens of gay bars, clubs, shops and hotels, Brighton is without doubt London by the sea, and we plan to show the world how the Lesbian and Gay community can work together to produce the greatest Pride festival ever! There are numerous gay events leading up to the 11th August, please check our web site for updates. The day itself will begin with the parade, this year the theme is 'Glam & Glitz', celebrating 75 years of Hollywood! There will be around 40 floats, marching bands and a sea of party goers in flamboyant costumes, last year over 10,000 people joined in the parade fun, with thousands more lining the streets! The parade will leave the promenade and wind its way through the town centre towards Preston Park where there will be an estimated 60-70,000 party-goers. There will be major stars performing on the main stage, a funfair, major shopping village, dance and cabaret tents, plus many other attractions! There will be many after pride parties happening in various gay venues around town, plus 'The Beach Ball', a huge Gay and lesbian party presented by Wild fruit, that will host about 5,000 revellers! For up to date details please keep checking our ever growing website. www.brightonandhovepride.co.uk |
